Square Hue July Box

Square Hue July Box hellokelcey.blogspot.com

Hello folks. I'm here with another installment of my monthly Square Hue box review. This month, we have the Barcelona collection. All of these polishes are very bold and have a shimmer finish. These all had a great opaque formula. I probably could have gotten away with only one coat of each, but I did two just for test purposes.

As you can see, the box contained an orange shade, a very dark purple shade, and a pink shade. I think the orange and pink are perfect for summer, and the purple is a great fall staple. This seems to be a theme with each box I have received lately, a couple polishes that I will wear now, and at least one that seems a little more autumn/winter to me. That is totally fine though. I only have so many fingers, you know?

The first polish is Rambla de Ravel. This is a very bright yellowy-orange. This is my favorite out of all three. I love that this is a little lighter than some of the other oranges in my collection. It looks great with my (very pale) skin tone. Sometimes yellow and orange polishes just don't look right on me, but this is a good one. The finish is a very pretty micro shimmer. This has the most noticeable shimmer out of the three polishes this month.

Next up is Placa Catalunya. This is a bright fuchsia/magenta shade. Again, this has a micro shimmer finish. I like the color of this polish, but it was a little streaky for me. This was surprising because I have not had this problem with any of my other Square Hue polishes. I think I would have preferred this shade without the silver shimmer, perhaps that would have taken away the streakiness.

Finally, we have Passeig de Gracia. This is an interesting shade. In the bottle, it looks like a dark purple with dark pink shimmer. However, once you put it on, you can not see the shimmer unless you have a light shining directly on your nails. Outside in natural daylight the color is gorgeous. Inside, with no over head lights on it is a little lack luster. Despite that, I do really like this color and think it will be perfect for fall.

Hope you enjoyed this review! Let me know if you have tried out Square Hue. I get so excited when I see that little box on my doorstep.

Square Hue June Box

square hue june box hellokelcey.blogspot.com

I can't believe it's already June. Where did Spring go? We're super excited for warmer weather and swimming! Nora hasn't been in a pool yet, she was too little last year, so that will be fun.

The beginning of a new month can only mean one thing- a new Square Hue box! This month's theme is Maui. I totally get it, these colors are so clearly inspired by the beach and ocean. This collection is kind of cool because it's the first one where Square Hue let the customers pick the colors. They had three color range options to choose from and the one with most votes won.

In this collection there is a micro glitter, high gloss creme and a satin. I have not yet gotten a satin shade in any of my previous boxes so I was excited to try that out. The quality was great this time, each polish only took 2 coats to be opaque.

The first polish is called Ka'shumanu, this is a medium blue shade with a micro glitter finish. This is a nice color but I would not call it particularly unique. In fact, it reminded me a lot of a shade I had already gotten in one of my previous Square Hue boxes.

I took a quick (i.e. not great) photo to compare the two. On the left is Ginza from the February box. Ginza is a little darker, as you cal tell, but they are both medium blue tones with silver micro glitter. I do like them both, but am hoping for something different in next month's box. I am sure someone else will love these shades, they are just not what I typically gravitate towards.

Next up is Wailea, which is a sandy caramel color with a high gloss creme finish. I like this color a lot. None of my other boxes so far this year have had a shade similar to this, and I don't have anything else from another brand like it. It's a really good warm neutral that reminds me of butterscotch. This will be a staple come fall and winter.

Lastly, we have Ala Moana which is a true teal with a satin finish. I am not a huge fan of satin or matte polishes so I put a high gloss top coat over this and it looked great. I love teal, it's the perfect middle ground between green and blue. This is the only polish that was a little thin. I did only use 2 coats but probably will do 3 next time I use it.

Over all I am happy with this collection. I tested these out by doing a polka dot mani with Ala Moana as a base and Wailea as the dots and it looked super cute. Have any of you tried Square Hue? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this subscription.

Square Hue May Box

Square Hue May Box hellokelcey.blogspot.com

I got my May box from Square Hue and I am again very excited. The city this collection is inspired by this month is Rio and it definitely evokes the atmosphere of this Brazilian city. The colors are very rich and I am in LOVE with the blue glitter.

I'm excited to use these colors for summer, but I also this they will look fantastic going into fall, especially the green and yellow shades.

First up we have Leblon. This is a deep forest green shade with green shimmer. I don't have any other color like this in my collection right now. Usually with greens I stick to brighter shades, but I'm excited to try this out. It looks sophisticated and would probably be ideal as a pedicure color.

Next in the box is Ipanema. This is a golden yellowy mustard shade full of micro glitter. Yellow happens to be my favorite color and this shade is the one I always gravitate towards in fall. I'm looking forward to trying this out!

This one is my favorite. Possibly my favorite out of all the boxes I have received this year actually. It is called Copacabana and is a bright blue polish packed with blue and silver glitter. I could not stop staring at this bottle when I opened up the box. It is so unique and fun. I liked it so much I did a swatch for you! This is layered over Ginza from the February box. You will need to layer this over something, unless you want your natural nail to show because the polish itself is very sheer.

It is so pretty, I'm obsessed.

Square Hue April Box

Square Hue April Box hellokelcey.blogspot.com

Apologies in advance, friends, I am a month late on this review. As usual, my Square Hue box arrived right at the beginning of April, but I did not get around to writing this post until now. So sorry! On the bright side, you won't have to wait so long between reviews this month.

I am loving the Amsterdam collection. As I have mentioned before, I'm a fan of bright, fun colors. This collection sure delivered that. This month the box came with two creme polishes and one duochrome.

Square Hue April Box hellokelcey.blogspot.com

To start, we have Beethovenstraat. Bonus points if you can pronounce that. This is a high gloss creme polish in a vibrant lime green shade. I used this recently in some nail art over a solid white polish and the color showed up very well. I'm not sure if I would paint all of my nails in this color, but it is perfect for accenting nail art. I'll be sure to post a tutorial soon of the design I did using this.

Second in the box, we have Kalverstraat. This is another high gloss creme polish. I'm not sure this photo is doing it justice, because this is a bright watermelon color. It is so fun for Spring and Summer. I have not tried this one yet but I think it would look great at a pedicure color.

Lastly, is P.C. Hooftstraat. I'm intrigued by these names. After I finish this I'm going to look up what they mean. This shade is an amazing purple/blue duochrome. I'm in love. It is so pretty. I painted my nails with this a couple weeks ago and it looked so good on. The coverage was nice, as well. I got full coverage in two coats. The photo makes is seem more blue, but it really looks purple on the nails, then when the light catches it you can see more of the blue. It is truly unique, I don't have anything in my collection like this.

I'm so happy with this collection. I was a little disappointed that last month's box was all neutrals. The May box is Rio. I am so excited for that because I can already guess that it's going to be bright and fun.

Square Hue March Box

Square Hue mail day is always a fun one. I have been so looking forward to the first of the month and my new box of polishes. This is my first subscription box and it is super fun. Square Hue is a nail polish subscription service that sends out a box of three new nail polishes each month. The company has philanthropic efforts to put an end to human trafficking. A portion of the proceeds are donated to prevention awareness, the protection of trafficked victims and the prosecution of human traffickers, which is pretty amazing if you ask me.

Each month's box has a theme. We are still in The Passport Collection, and this month's destination is Paris. I can clearly see the inspiration behind these shades. They are all neutrals and have an air of sophistication. I actually was able to try these polishes out this month! I swatched each one on my own nails so I can comment about the formulation of each one. Are you excited? Here we go.
First, we have Champs-Elyees, which is a creamy polish with lots of shimmer. I would consider this an ivory color with slight yellow and green undertones. It is certainly unique, I have never seen a color quite like this. The formula is the thickest of all three polishes. I painted my nails with this and it was opaque with three coats. Not bad by any means. This color seems so bridal to me, I might wear it if Madison and I ever decide to have a larger wedding ceremony.

Next up is Notre Dame, a high gloss cream. This is a pretty nude shade, very classic in my opinion. The formulation is very thin, I painted one coat on my nails and did not get much color pay off. If I had been more patient, I would have built the color up, but I wanted to try them all at once so I didn't. One coat is better than none! I'm going to try this again because I do like the color, however I prefer opaque nail polish so hopefully this isn't too sheer.

Lastly, we have Arc de Triomphe, a pinky, rosey, nude shimmer. Again, this is a very unique color and I can say with certainty that I don't have anything like this in my collection. Once again, I only tried one coat. And again, this is very sheer. The pink shimmer in this is super pretty when the light catches it, I imagine this would look lovely as a top coat over another nude shade.

Overall, I like this collection, but not as much as I liked last month. I tend to be drawn towards brighter colors, but I have been wearing Champs- Elysees for two days now and it is lovely. This collection is so romantic, so it's hard not to be happy when you see it. I was on Instagram and saw that someone had used this collection for a French manicure. It looked really good, and how perfect? Paris collection... French manicure. I love it.

Let me know if you are liking my Square Hue reviews, I really like doing them so I hope you enjoy reading them. Maybe next month I'll even show my nail swatches and do adequate coats. Something to look forward to! We're getting real professional around here.

Square Hue February Box

I just recently received my February subscription box from Square Hue and oh, it is a good one. As part of the ongoing Passport Collection, this month's box was Tokyo. Once I heard this I knew I was in for a super fun surprise. If you would like to see last month's box, you can find my review here.

These polished did not disappoint. When I think of Tokyo, I see lots of bright, fun colors, and that is exactly what I got.

The first shade is called Roppongi. This is a yellow glitter polish with green undertones. I was anticipating a yellow polish in this collection so I was very excited to see this. I'm really excited to try this polish out, probably with a white polish underneath to really make the color pop.

The next shade is Shibuya. This purple polish is packed with micro glitter which makes it change shades as you turn it toward or away from light. I am in love with this shade, it's my favorite from the box. Spring is coming up and this shade is the perfect transition between seasons.

Finally, we have Ginza. This is a bright blue shade with silver shimmer. I am not too sure about this one. I think I need to try it out before I make a decision. I'm not usually too keen on blue polishes unless they are very dark, but I'm willing to give this a shot.

Here is a shot of all the colors together. You can really see the iridescence of the purple polish here. Now I am desperately hoping to get out of this cast soon so I can try these out!
