When I made Nora's birthday dress I had some fabric left over and decided to make her a matching bow for her hair. I spent way too much time sewing one before I realized I could use glue and make it just as cute but 100x quicker. Check out the tutorial below for this super cute and easy DIY. Warning: it's addictive. It's also a great way to use up your fabric scraps!
Supplies:
scrap piece of fabric
lace elastic
tacky glue
scissors
1. Cut your fabric into two rectangles. No need to be exact with these cuts, just know that the bigger your large rectangle is, the larger your bow will be. Mine were about 5"x2.5" and 3"x.75"
2. Put two lines of glue on the long edges of the wrong side of each rectangle. Bring the edges to the center, overlapping slightly and hold until the glue sets (only a couple of seconds, that's why I like the Tacky Glue).
3. Fold one open edge to the center and apply a line of glue.
4. Fold the other edge over and overlap the line of glue.
5. To get the bow shape, ignore my chipped nails, hold the bow in the center and pinch the sides together.
6. Flip the bow over and put a little dab of glue in the folds you created.
7. Take your smaller strip of fabric and wrap it around the center of your bow, hiding the glue. Cut off the excess and glue into place.
8. Cut your lace elastic to the size you need and glue the ends together.
9. Glue you bow over the seam on you elastic and voila! A super quick and easy bow for your baby. You could also wear this yourself if you make the elastic long enough. I actually took one bow and glued an alligator clip to the back of it and wore it in my hair that way. Endless possibilities here.
The cupcake one is what Nora wore on her birthday. That one took a little bit more precision because I wanted to make sure there were two cupcakes on either end.
